Centrefold started in 2003, emerging from a curatorial project entitled Wooden Hearts. For each issue primarily London-based contemporary artists are invited to contribute original artwork which will fill one to two pages of the scrapbook, a writer, historian, curator or an artist is normally invited to produce the centrefold of each particular issue. All the pages are then complied, formatted, and designed by Reza Aramesh or in collaboration with a guest artist. J. J. Charlesworth describes Centrefold as taking ‘its cue from the childhood fascination for collecting and collating, the improvised cutting and pasting through which a constellation of interests and desires are brought together. A group show in its own right’.
Contributors of original artwork to this issue are: Reza Aramesh, Sam Basu, Diann Bauer, Matt Bryans, Ellen Cantor, Henry Coleman, Sarah Emerson, Brian Griffiths, Nicole Licht-Urbanic, Goshka Macuga, Rupert Norfolk, Sally O’Reilly, John Russell, Dallas Seitz, Filiberto Skid, Tina Spear, and Francis Upritchard.
