(209 x 270 mm), pp.[112]. 79 colour photographs, text by Jean-Pierre Nouhaud. Colour photo-illustrated wrappers, perfect bound; creasing and a shallow scratches to each side. Inscribed and dated ’93 by Rio Branco in pencil to title-page. Very good.

First edition, issued in wrappers only. Inscribed to John G. Morris, photo editor and the first executive editor of Magnum. Rio Branco became an Associate Member of Magnum in 1980 and continues his affiliation with the agency now as a correspondent. The photographs in Dulce Sudor Amargo were taken in Salvador de Bahia, Northeastern Brazil. Particularly in and around Pelourinho, a poor district with a rich history, where prostitution and poverty were rife. Ref.: The Latin American Photobook p.21
